OhmConnect Super User Reaches 100 Consecutive Events!

Earlier this year we shared in our 2017 Impact Summary that four Ohmconnect users had reached streaks of 100 consecutive events … amazing, right?!

This week we caught up with one of those users, Sylvester, to hear how he made it happen.

“We just made it our goal” he explained. Whenever we get the alerts about an upcoming #OhmHour we just agree to make it work however we can. It’s happening, so we do whatever we can to make it happen in our home.”

Sylvester lives with his wife in an apartment in San Diego and they first heard about OhmConnect through a Facebook ad.

Starting off small by just flipping off the lights and unplugging here are there, Sylvester and his wife gained momentum by routinely beating their baseline. Since then, they’ve stepped up their #OhmHour game and have invested in power strips and smart plugs.

“The power strips have made it super easy. We look at things like cell phone chargers, electronics, TV’s or game consoles and hook them up to power strips so they’re not using any electricity while they’re off.”

His tips for others trying to hit an OhmHour milestone?

1. Invest in smart plugs: “Those have really helped since we hooked them up to our fridge and computer. If you keep the fridge door closed, the temperature will stay about the same during the #OhmHour and it cuts way down on our energy usage.”
2. Set it as a goal with your housemates: “We will plan to go for a walk or grocery shopping or out for dinner if there is an OhmHour scheduled. It helps to leave the house so we’re not tempted to flip on lights or plug something in.”
