How to Install Your Nest Power Connector
Follow this guide to install your Nest Power Connector — which is available in our OhmConnect store.
1. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat is correctly installed. Click here if you require help with installation.
2. Confirm that your Nest Thermostat software is up to date. A software version 1.1 or later is required. You can check and update this on your thermostat by going to Settings > Version > Update.
3. Turn off the power at your circuit breaker.
4. Open your HVAC equipment cover. The Nest Power Connector is installed or connected at the same place where all the standard thermostat connections are normally made, at the furnace, air handler, or zone controller.
Heating and Cooling System
1. Wire the Nest Power Connector to Y.
2. If your system has extra wires, like a G wire (to the thermostat) and C and Y wires (to the compressor) please keep them connected.
3. Properly terminate any loose wires.
Cooling Only System
1. If your system has extra wires, like a G wire (to the thermostat) and C and Y wires (to the compressor) please keep them connected.
2. Properly terminate any loose wires.
Heating Only System
1. If your system has extra wires, like a G wire (to the thermostat) please keep them connected.
2. Properly terminate any loose wires.
If no C terminal is present in the HVAC system you will need an external 24 VA/20 VA transformer and additional wire nut/lever lock connectors in order to install, then follow these steps:
1. Remove the Nest Power Connector cap.
2. Remove the Nest Power Connector jumper.
3. Refit the Nest Power Connector cap.
4. Wire the external transformer C wire to the Nest Power Connector C wire.
5. Wire the external transformer R wire, the Nest Power Connector R wire, and the thermostat R wire in a 3-way splice.
6. Properly terminate any loose wires.
7. Connect the external transformer to a power source.
8. Once the Nest Power Connector is installed, close the HVAC cover and turn on the power. There is often a safety switch controlled by the cover that will prevent operation until it is replaced.
9. Confirm that the Nest Power Connector installation is working, on the Nest Thermostat go to Settings > Equipment > Power Connector and run a Power Test. Confirm that the status is detected in the Power Info screen.
